Hunger - 2009

precision farming system, tractor, sowing machine, crops
format variable

Using seeds sowed by GPS-steered precision farming system tractors, Greenfort is tracing out the word HUNGER in one of the vast sugar
beet fields of the Wilhelmina polder. The letters lie fallow and can be seen from the road adjoining the cultivated arable land. The
work is a cultural-historical reference to the naming of Hongersdijk, an old farmstead in the Wilhelmina polder named after the village
of Hongersdijk that disappeared after one of the many dike bursts in the sixteenth century. More to the point, however, is that
Greenfort’s intervention in the Zeeland clay addresses issues such as consumption, trade and the right to food.
