Tür auf, Tür zu - 2007

wood, stain, wax, door handle
31 x 15 x 5 cm / 12 1/4 x 6 x 2 in each

The object "Tür auf Tür zu" ("Door open door closed") is a model of a door handle especially popular in the 50's and 60's, nicknamed the "shoehorn." The door handle is mounted on a wooden block, referring to the fine art door handle made by Marcel Breuer, at the Neue Galerie in New York. The various colors and models of "Tür auf Tür zu", as well as their arrangement as a product display, presents the work as a commodity. In the case of acquisition, the small sculpture required placement on a everyday surface, such as a windowsill or table, as they come without a base or glass case.
