Format variable
Installation view: Studio 34, Salerno, 2001.
The installation was shown at Micol Assaël's first solo exhibition which took place at Studio 34 in Salerno, Italy. The installation consisted of various sanitation objects (bath tub, shower, sink etc...) suspended at eye level and filled to the brim with water. Before the exhibition Assaël slept in an iron framed bed, which is also a part of the installation. Afterwards, many tiny, glass sequins (3 mm diameter) were placed in the middle of the mattress creating the appearance of a water stain. Every four seconds, a Whimshurst high tension generator produced an electric spark (approximately 4 cm) under the shower. Overlapping rhythms were created by the drops of water falling from the various sanitation objects into glasses (4-10-20 seconds). One of these glasses stood on a map of Iceland. The work refers to the state of mind between sleeping and waking. Danger is imminent as in the case of a flood, the entire room would be electrified. Nevertheless it is not the danger which the artist is attracted to, but rather the physical and psychological reactions released in relation to this danger.
