proprio aperto - 2005
Video still, one-channel video installation ( VD, sound, colour) in collaboration with Judith Hopf and Florian Zeyfang
5 min
A walk through the Venice Biennale Gardens in Winter.
The Biennale and the spectacle that accompanies it are absent. Instead most of the pavilionsare reappropriated or altered in different ways. The new inhabitants are not present during our visit. We walk through this unexpected other side of the spectacle, take photos and feel like intruders. The voice-over text of the video transports some of our thoughts and discussions. It revolves around temporary ruins, ghosts of the spectacle and reapropriation. The images - the actual photographs - are presented in slow pans similar to a slide show on a computer screensaver. The voice-over is spoken by Mica Mcgee.
Voice over excerpt:
A ruin is known to be essentially the remains of
architecture which has been moved by changes
in outer or inner circumstances - mostly these
movements can be traced back to something like
time, war, aggression, vandalism, bad weather, bad
planning, or in a few words: ambivalence towards
the architecture. And there, where there are ruins,
gaps are formed.
