Exhibition views: No Matter How Bright the Light, the Crossing Occurs at Night, KW Berlin, 2006.

A series of changing nouns is projected onto a wall by two video projectors. The two projectors project onto the same spot so that the words are not legible. They become decipherable only when people step into the picture and cover one of the projections with their bodies. By walking into the projection people become part of the picture. One noun appears on their shadow on the wall, the other one is projected on their back.
The words are extracted from Kathy Ackers novel, 'Empire of the Senseless'. They comprise a complete list of all names and namings marking people who appear in the novel. In the book, the Algerian War comes to Paris. Paris is completely destroyed and the Arabs take control over the city. In the wasteland of a city reduced to rubble, people also loose their status and identity. They enter a state of permanent becoming. Everyone, human or not, changes names and titling constantly.
